Witches Falls Gift House
“Witches Falls Gift House” stocks a large range of sought after collectibles, including Shelly, Royal Doulton, Crown Derby, Wedgwood, Meakin, Kutani, Sathuma, Royal Dux, Lladro & Nao, Beswick, David Winter … to name a few.
People often ask “… why the name Witches Falls?” unaware that the area adjacent to the shop is “Witches Falls National Park” – the oldest National Park in Queensland. It is rumoured that the name Witches Falls “stuck” after residents west of Tamborine Mountain saw lights on the side of the mountain many years ago, and attributed them to “the Mountain Witches …”.
Upon entering the “Witches Falls Gift House” there is first the expression of surprise – after all, from Main Western road the shop appears small, but then, when you come inside – “Oh … LOOK … my grandma had one of those …” Shop owners Noelina & Phil Jackson often hear this comment as visitors start to browse through their assortment of old and collectable objects, precious things, antiques, curios and beautiful furniture.
Noel & Phil have spent a lifetime selecting interesting and rare items for you to see, admire, wonder at, and, if you really like, to buy at very reasonable prices. Their collection of old world charmers include solid antiques of mahogany, walnut, oak and other rare and exotic timbers, which are usually marked for sale at prices below that which you would expect to pay for “modern” counterparts.
Phil combines his furniture making skills with a flair for bringing old pieces “back to life”. Repair and restoration of furniture is his preference, while Noelina is a skilled artisan with her sewing machine, materials and extensive range of old jewellery.
As you meander through the displays you will find antique Vaseline glass pieces complemented by old Viennese glassware, in turn contrasted by the stark white beauty of Fenton glass. Lead crystal from all over the world rings like fairy bells when gently tapped and all the colours of the rainbow (or witches brew for that matter) leap out when held up to the light.
Old and Estate jewellery is enhanced by displays of estate diamond, sapphire, ruby, emerald and other precious stones set into rings, necklaces and brooches. Individual cut and polished solitaire unset stones are also available for those who want to have a special setting designed by their own jeweller.
A huge collection of “David Winter” cottages – currently numbering over 300 items, awaits the awestruck gaze of those of us enchanted by miniature replicas of “days gone by”. David Winter is an Internationally renowned artist who has sculpted faithful reproductions, in extraordinary detail, of England’s ancient castles, churches, manors, cottages and historic monuments and buildings.
A number of local artists have entrusted their precious creations to Phil & Noel’s care and they are always looking for different and unusual things to include in their range of goods for sale.
